Annemarie Layman is a local Winnipeg artist who graduated from the University of Manitoba in Fine Arts and Education. She has showcased her work in juried exhibitions with the cre8ery, the Manitoba Society of Artists, the Mennonite Heritage gallery and the Winnipeg Sketch Club. She has won a number of awards and was a teacher with the Winnipeg School Division #1. Today she continues to work on building her career as an artist.
Annemarie began using watercolour but later found that she needed to explore working with acrylics and collage. This led to layering and the excitement of blending colours with found materials. A greater unmasking of images was revealed. With mixed media she realized that she could render a stronger sense of depth. Inspirations are drawn from flashbacks, photographs and anecdotes gathered through the years. The subject matter ranges from representational to the abstract. The artist found the work is strongest when juxtaposed between realism and abstraction.
