Mohan Tenuwara
Artist I Musician I Architect
Mohan began painting as a teenager and had his first exhibition in 1985. Parallel to his professional training as an architect, Mohan holds drawing & painting close to his heart. Mohan’s freehand ink renderings have appeared in several publications and he now works primarily on acrylic. As a painter, Mohan sees his role as part a storyteller. By supplying a setting and adding characters, he believes that viewers will use their own experience to complete the story.
With subject matters from his present home land Manitoba to his childhood hometown in Galle, Sri Lanka, light has been a constant preoccupation in Mohan’s work. He uses this light to describe the subject and relay their emotions. Rhythms and patterns have by and large taken precedence over form. Yet, Mohan wants light and shadow to be truthful and become a focus for the work.
Mohan is known for his work featuring Manitoba and the Prairies. He works from his home studio in Bridgewater Forest, Winnipeg. Mohan is a member of Winnipeg Sketch Club, Manitoba Society of Artists as well as Manitoba Association of Architects.
